Yesterday Went a Little Like This

I slept in too late, which was my own fault. After making breakfast for me and T, I took a shower and hurried to work to retrieve my paycheck (no, I don't have direct deposit) and take it to my bank branch before it closed at 1pm.

On weekends at my office building, we are supposed to sign in and out with a sheet at the "security guard's" station. I did, even though I wasn't staying long. I took the elevator up a gazillion floors to my office. I grabbed several things I needed to work from home and then rode a few floors down to pick up some poinsettias I'd ordered. Hands full, I managed to press the button for the first floor. Just before the elevator reached the lobby, a couple of my plants slid out of my fingers and dropped to the floor. The elevator doors opened and as I struggled to pick up my plants, they closed and the elevator began to ascend again. Sigh. I pushed "1" but the elevator was no longer taking my requests.

Once it stopped, which was a couple dozen floors up, it let me push the first floor button again and down we went. I got off the elevator and went to sign out. It was at that moment I realized I hadn't even gotten my paycheck from my office - which was the main reason for my trip. At that point, I had about 20 minutes to make it to my bank before they closed. I signed out, stomped over to the parking garage elevators, put my plants on the floor, and then took the building elevators back up to get my check. I pulled up at the bank at 12:59pm.

Cut to 11pm. T had gone with a friend to a local acts concert in Carmel. I'd volunteered to pick them up. I found my destination and picked the girls up without incident. As we pulled out of the facility parking lot, a Carmel cop pulled out from across the street and followed us. I knew what was coming and warned the girls that we had both a headlight and a taillight out, so would almost certainly be pulled over. We were.

The cop, busy protecting Carmel residents from young kids attending a concert at the Carmel Performing Arts Center, walked up to T's window. As I handed him my license, he asked to see IDs from the girls. Um, why? I informed him they didn't have IDs and after he asked T how old she is (15), he let it go. My crim law readers, is a person required to carry ID at all times and produce it on demand? The girls had done nothing wrong and we certainly weren't engaged in any suspicious activity. There was no reason to ask for their IDs other than he hoped one of us would have a warrant so he could make an arrest. No such luck.

He gave me a warning, which I never get, and sent us on our way. Must not be much going on in Carmel on the weekends.

Today? I slept in too late, which was my own fault.
