Disturbing

To say the least.

Stop

Replaced all brake pads.
Bled many precious pennies,
But stop on a dime.

Back on the (Band)Wagon

So, T is once again a vegetarian. You may remember when T first decided to give the meatless way of life a go, a little over a year ago. I think she lasted about 2 months before she succumbed to the temptation of a can of corned beef hash, no less.

Now she's resisted for one week. Before she made her most recent announcement (by writing me a note and leaving it on the car seat in the morning when I dropped her off at school), she'd been dropping hints but I wasn't pickin' up what she was puttin' down. My stated intention to make meatloaf one day was met with a chilly reception (despite that she'd been the one to suggest it just a few short weeks ago). A shopping trip brought a request for chocolate soy milk because she'd had it at her friend's house. (No, she's not a vegan, not sure on the friend, who is a vegetarian). She also turned down my offers to buy hot dogs and bologna that day.

Wish T luck. She says she really wants to stick with it this time. And by all means, send your favorite sans meat recipes my way.

Snap, Crackle, Pop

Indy peeps: do you have any recommendations for a good chiropractor? I've never been and I won't get into my opinions about them right now, but I'm considering trying it. Once.

My neck and back are driving me crazy and it's only getting worse. I'll likely see an orthopedist (again) before actually making a chiro appointment, but I thought I'd put the request out there and see if you have any suggestions or warnings about particular folks. Feel free to e-mail me rather than leave the info in the comments, if you'd like.

He's Alive

Look closely, ladies. *wipes away tear* Congratulations, Fresh?!

FYI

I use "fyi" way too much in e-mail correspondence, but just the right amount - in my opinion - in conversation.

Just fyi.

Scary

Scary: e-filing a document (case management plan) in federal district court from home, which process utilizes the "browse" function to find your document, which is located in your "My Received Files" folder, alongside other previously received files with titles like "buttrocket", "badkid," "mensurinal," "ho," and "video of Anna 8 half mos." That is definitely one time you don't want your finger to slip and cause you to send the wrong file. I'm betting Judge Tinder would not be amused.

First-timer

Things I learned at the Boat Sport and Travel Show, which I attended yesterday for the first time in my life:

1. You can spend several hours at the show and still not see Rupert.
2. You can buy a boat for the low-low payment of $242/month...for two hundred gazillion months.
3. If the Fairgrounds staff makes you park on the track as far away as possible from the Coliseum, they might send a bus around to shuttle you to the show. You can get the best (and last) two seats on that bus if you are willing to sit in mud that looks like animal shit, but isn't.
4. TV stars may not be who they seem to be.
5. Blue Moon is sold at the show. On tap. With orange slices. The cheeseburgers aren't half bad, either.

Disturbed

I don't know what's worse: that someone conducted this search, or that the search brought them to my blog.

Peyton Manning is Fantastic

Most folks around here would agree with that statement, and I was reminded of just how great he is (or appears to be) while watching him on David Letterman last night. Speaking of Dave, I love him too - but his show is on past my usual bedtime, so I almost never watch.

As I watched Peyton last night I couldn't help but think: the Dixie Chicks sure could learn a thing or two about humility and grace from Peyton Manning.

Winter Storm Warning

Depending on which weather report you adopt, we are set to get 4-12 inches of snow in the next day or so. It was supposed to start snowing around 7pm; it's a little after 9 and I've yet to see a new snowflake fall. In fact, the most treacherous thing about driving right now is the 2-3 inches of salt on the streets attacking the underbellies of our cars.

Also, I sent the following e-mail to the entire litigation department at work today:

Does anyone have a rolling briefcase they could lend me for the next 2 days? Thank you.

Subtle. Nothing like announcing to everyone you work with that you're not planning to come to work the next day. Early predictions had convinced me that T's school would probably close tomorrow; I brought home enough work to work from home in that event. Now that the storm is running late, we'll probably all have to go to work and school and then we'll get caught in some nightmarish drive home.

On the bright side, I received my very own litigation bag/rolling briefcase. Yay! Let it snow!

What Your Sweetheart Does NOT Want for Valentine's Day

Panties in a bottle. That you can purchase them at your local grocery store does not mean you should.

Dear Mr. Mayor,

I braved the cold last night to show my support for our Colts. I hope the boys in blue weren't disappointed at the number of people "lining the streets" on the parade route to the Dome. A ticker tape parade would have been nice - along with some creative strategies for how to entice more fans to show their appreciation. If we want to hang with the big dogs (see: bid to be a Super Bowl host city), we should consider upgrading our celebrations just a tad.

Next time - yes, next time! - we should ask Chicago if we can borrow their ticker-tape machines.

Sincerely,
Kelly

GO COLTS!!!

What I'm Thinking About

I've had CBS on all day, and it's been football, football, football. I'm excited and ready for the game, and I hope the boys in blue are too.

One of the NFL segments just shown highlighted some of the accomplishments of various NFL players OFF the field. I don't know if their stories bored some of the viewers who were tuned in for all day football, but I came away pleased to know what some of the players are doing with their talents and their resources.

Samkon Gado's story is particularly heartening. He was born in Nigeria and has been playing in the NFL for approximately 2 years. Though it was off to a slow start, his career looks promising at this point. But his long-term goal? Become a doctor and work as a medical missionary in Nigeria, where he regularly visits to perform volunteer medical services. He's taken pre-med courses and plans to re-take the MCAT later this year. It's a great story and I wish him the best. A paraphrase of something his mother said has been playing in my mind ever since the segment ran:

The fruits of your talents are not for your personal consumption; they are for the benefit of others.

Three Word Movie Review

The Last King of Scotland: Go see it.*

*T and I saw it last night and it was outstanding. She didn't want to see it, but agreed when it was over that it was a great movie. I don't often encourage people to see particular films, but I highly recommend this one.
